Duties of the Municipal CourtJustice emblems
The Fernley Municipal Court is a limited jurisdiction court that hears misdemeanor cases. Maximum sentences are $1,000 and / or six months in jail.

The jurisdiction and operation of municipal courts are described in the 
Nevada Revised Statues (NRS): Chapters 266.550 - 266.595. The powers of the Municipal Court include the power to charge and collect those fees authorized pursuant to NRS: Chapter 5.073.

Fernley Municipal Court Dress Code
Dress code is strictly enforced at the Fernley Municipal Court. Anyone wearing inappropriate clothing will not be allowed in the courtroom. Attorneys must be dressed in appropriate business attire. Tank tops, halter tops, tops with profane or obscene language, soiled or unkempt clothing, or exercise apparel will not be allowed in the courtroom.

Suggested minimum dress requirements for litigants, witnesses and spectators are:

  • Male - Long or short sleeved shirts with collars. Slacks or dress type denim trousers. Appropriate shoes or boots.
  • Females - Dresses, skirts or slacks and blouses. Appropriate footwear.
No chewing gum, food or drink will be allowed in the courtroom. Cell phones are to be turned off in the courtroom. If you have any questions, check with the Clerk of the Court.
