Responsibilities

To ensure quality construction for the City’s residents and visitors, the Building Department has the following responsibilities:

  • Regulates building construction and building occupancy through the enforcement of the City’s following codes:
    • 2006 International Building Code
    • 2006 International Energy Conservation Code 
    • 2006 International Exisitng Building Code
    • 2006 International Property Maintenance Code
    • 2006 International Residental Code
    • 2005 National Electrical Code
    • 2006 Uniform Mechnical Code
    • 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code
  • Other state and local laws and ordinances

Projects

If you are planning on beginning a project, please give the Building Department a call to determine if a building permit is necessary.

While most projects require permits, many minor projects do not. However, even if a permit may not be necessary, other regulations, such as zoning, may apply.

All general contractor and sub contractors must have a Nevada State Contractors License in addition to a City of Fernley business license prior to doing any construction within the City limits.

Scheduling Inspections
All requests must be received by the Building Department office no later than 4:00 p.m. in order to be on the next day's schudule. Please call the 24 hour Inspection Request Line at 775-784-9829 or fax requests to 775-784-9828.
