On December 19, 2018 Fernley City Council adopted by Resolution 18-015 the Lyon County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP) meets the requirements of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, which calls for all communities to prepare hazard mitigation plans. By preparing and adopting by resolution this MJHMP, the Lyon County is eligible to receive Federal mitigation funding after disasters and to apply for mitigation grants before disasters strike. This MJHMP starts an ongoing process to evaluate the risks, different types of hazards pose to Fernley, and to engage the Fernley community in dialogue to identify important steps to reduce these risks. The constant focus on planning for disasters will make the City, including its residents, property, infrastructure, and the environment, much safer. Mayor Edgington and City staff have worked with the Lyon County Office of Emergency Management, the City of Yerington, the North Lyon County Fire Protection District, Lyon County, and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to develop and update the Lyon County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2018.
